WaaS - What are my options if my device cannot be updated to Windows 11?

Question

What are my options if my device cannot be updated to Windows 11?

Answer

For machines that cannot update to Windows 11 due to incompatibility with hardware and software, please review the workflow below:

  • Windows 10 22H2 is being implemented for those devices that cannot upgrade to Windows 11 due to hardware or software incompatibility.
    • It should NOT be used to build devices for any other reason.
  • Windows 10 21H2's support will end on June 11, 2024.
  • Windows 10 22H2 will be supported by Microsoft through October 14, 2025.
  • Vendors have been consulted to confirm Windows 10 22H2 compatibility of hardware and software.
  • Approximately 5,700 devices will be updated with minimal user impact.
    • The reboot time takes less than five minutes.
  • Unlike Windows 11, Windows 10 22H2 does not include USMT..
    • Ensure that any user data is backed up manually before rebuilding using this task sequence.
  • This build is not available for OTW and can only be triggered manually.
