Introduction
The first part of the upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 will take a long and variable amount of time in the background, possibly up to two hours. During the "online" portion of the upgrade, you can continue to use the device. However, a reboot is needed to complete the upgrade. Once the device reboots, it goes into the "offline" portion of the upgrade which may take as little as 20 minutes or possibly longer than 80 minutes, depending on the age and performance of the device
Instructions
Step 1: Receive Initial User Notification of pending software changes.
- Click on the message that says, Click here for options.
Step 2: Confirm Installation.
- Select Right now (recommended).
- The Restart my computer automatically if needed option will be greyed out.
- Select OK.
Step 3: Receive progress notification.
- Selecting Click to view progress (located at the bottom right of the screen) will automatically open Software Center to show the upgrade status for downloading and installing software.
- To navigate to Software Center manually, select the Start Menu and then All Apps.
- Scroll down the list until you get to Software Center.
- Select the Updates tab and run the Windows 11 version 23H2 option.
Step 4: Reboot machine.
- Save any work you have open before the machine restarts.
- Select Restart Now.
- Clicking on Cancel will delay the upgrade until the next reboot.
- Select OK.
Step 5: Receive notification for restart.
- The notification informs you that you'll be signed out of Windows and your computer will shut down.
- Select Close and make sure to save any work before the machine shuts down.
