Introduction

HITS offers two methods to access your files, folders, and applications while working at home or remotely.

Michigan Medicine Managed Device: A Michigan Medicine-provided Windows (CoreImage) or Mac (CoreMac) computer. This option is nearly identical to working onsite, except a VPN is required to access privileged Michigan Medicine resources.
Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD): Access to a virtual (cloud-based) CoreImage-like Windows desktop from any computer and equipped with commonly-used applications, including MiChart and Microsoft Office 365 with Teams. All persons with access to Michigan Medicine's Microsoft 365 services such as Michigan Medicine email have access to WVD.
- Note: You can access a CoreImage computer back at Michigan Medicine by first accessing WVD and then using the Remote Desktop Connection application in WVD to access the CoreImage computer. However, the inverse is not possible. You cannot access a remote computer--even if it has an active VPN connection--from WVD.

* Remote Desktop can be accessed through WVD to avoid using the VPN if desired.

** To participate in Teams meetings, use Microsoft's Windows App (Windows or Mac instructions) to connect to WVD from your device instead of using a web browser.
