Issue
If I don't see an application in the list of available ones on Windows Virtual Desktop, how can I request to have it added?
Resolution
HITS can only offer applications that meet the following requirements:
- Are supported on Windows 11.
- Are packaged for CoreImage PCs.
- Licensed for U-M (e.g., Adobe), licensed per-user sign in (e.g., Microsoft 365), or are open-source/free (e.g., Microsoft Visual Studio Code).
- Does not require computational or graphics capabilities beyond the medium tier performance available in WVD. The general-purpose, multi-user host virtual machines that HITS uses in WVD do not have GPU acceleration.
- Is compatible with a virtual desktop infrastructure either based on vendor support or technical compatibility.
Please submit a ticket to HITS specifying the name of the application, its functionality, and a short business case. Also, request routing to the EDEM Business Analysts group.
These frequently requested applications are not compatible with WVD:
- ANSOS OneStaff
- Dropbox Sync (please use a web browser to access Dropbox)
- Cisco Jabber and Finesse
- Zoom (Please use the Teams application but only when you connect to WVD using the desktop client--not through a browser.)
- Licensing constraints:
- Microsoft Project (Planner/Project for the web)
- Microsoft Visio (LucidChart or Visio for the web)
- NVivo
- Performance requirements:
- Adobe Creative Cloud: Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
- ArcGIS
- Blender
- ImageJ/Fiji
- Microsoft and Oracle SQL Developer tools
- R and R-studio

- Vendor either doesn't support it on Windows 11 23H2 or in WVD or will not license it for WVD:
- GraphPad Prism
- PillCam Reader (not supported by the vendor in WVD)
- Prosolv Synapse Cardiovascular (incompatible with 23H2)
- Sectra
- Stata
