Tableau Server

Tableau Server is funded and supported by HITS and is available to all Michigan Medicine Employees to create or view analytic content. Our license allows every Michigan Medicine user to create and share Tableau Dashboards using Tableau Server.

Desktop Tools

Two of the Tableau software packages that are available at Michigan Medicine require active license keys and software installation:

• Tableau Desktop –  Subscription required:  Used to connect to databases, create dashboards, and publish data visualizations
• Tableau Prep – Subscription required: Software tool used to simplify data clean-up tasks required before developing data visualizations

Tableau Desktop can be installed on up to two devices (ie a desktop and a laptop) for a single user. Tableau Prep Builder can only be installed on one device per user.  Licenses cannot be shared, as this would violate our license agreement.

Please note that you DO NOT need a license key to request/install either of these applications for a free two-week trial period. Continued use of these applications after this two-week period, though, requires a valid license key. They can be requested from the ITS Software Catalog.

Licensing Options

The Tableau Creator Subscription includes both Tableau Desktop and Tableau Prep. If you need Tableau Desktop or Prep Builder you should purchase a creator subscription through ITS. 

In the past HITS maintained a pool of Perpetual Tableau Desktop licenses and reassigned unused ones as available but Salesforce/Tableau is ending support for those and they will no longer be renewed.

If you haven't already downloaded or requested Tableau software when you receive your license keys request Tableau Desktop and/or Prep from the Service Catalog.
