Question
When does the license for GraphPad Prism expire and renew?
Answer
The U-M site license for Prism is renewed annually and requires a new license number to be entered into the Prism application, expiring on April 30th each year. Users will see a pop-up warning of the impending expiration starting April 1.
The HITS Academic Applications team receives the new license code from the vendor before the April 30th deadline. Soon afterwards, current Michigan Medicine GraphPad Prism users will receive an email with instructions to request the new license code.
To summarize: The old code expires annually on April 30. The new code is immediately valid once it is provided by the vendor. During the grace period from roughly late March through April 30, both codes are valid. On April 30, the old code expires and only the new code will continue to be valid.
No matter what time of year, the most recent/valid code is provided to the user by filling out the GraphPad Prism Request Form here in the Help Center. As of the 2024/2025 license year, the form requires that your @med.umich.edu email be used.
Getting the license code:
The GraphPad Prism yearly license code is valid for all Michigan Medicine computers from April to April of each year.
To receive the license code, complete the GraphPad Prism License Code Request. In the request individuals can specify one computer, and labs can specify one to five computers to apply the GraphPad Prism license code to. By providing the number of computers, you help HITS more accurately track license usage.
Later on, if a lab finds that they need to use the code for more than the previously specified number of computers, simply fill out the request form again, specifying the number of additional computers. Again, this helps us know how many licenses are being consumed in total.
If a user requests a new license for a replacement computer, the previous license will be deactivated after the new license is applied.
