Classic-CoreImage - Determine Your Device's Mode

Introduction

CoreImage devices are customized for specific workflows and applications.  The "CoreImage" brand is used by HITS to encompass two similar products.

  1. Classic-CoreImage devices are configured and managed by using the HITS-developed Fleet Configuration System (FCS) and Microsoft's Endpoint Configuration Manager--which HITS still calls SCCM from a previous version.  A Classic-CoreImage can come in one of three configurations, or "modes."  A Classic-CoreImage device's mode is matched with the workflow of the area's users.  See "Classic-CoreImage - Where do I find my device's information?"includingMode.
    • Standard -- for individual and group use
    • Flex -- primarily for research areas that need to control when the computer reboots
    • Kiosk -- walk-up devices primarily used in clinical areas
  2. Intune-CoreImage devices are configured and managed by Microsoft Intune--the same system used to manage personal mobile devices used to access Michigan Medicine email.
    • As of Summer 2023, Intune-CoreImage devices are only deployed to individuals and are not designed for group workflows.  Since there is only one configuration, the Intune-CoreImage product does not yet have "modes."

Instructions

  1. If you see Company Portal instead of Software Center in the start menu, then you are using an Intune-CoreImage device and "mode" does not apply.

  2. Open a command prompt window:

    1. Click the start menu button.

    2. Type CMD, and hit return.

    3. If Windows doesn't permit you to use a command prompt, then you are using a Kiosk device.

    4. Otherwise, type Echo %mode% in the command prompt window and hit return.  This will return either Standard or Flex for the mode.
