EndNote - Installation

Introduction

EndNote - Account Creation, Before Installation

EndNote X8 and later versions support online libraries. This helps the user keep their library in sync across multiple computers. It also allows them to collaborate with other online users. In order to have a library the user will need to create an account with Endnote

1. Create your own Endnote account using XXXX@umich.edu on Endnote.com. You'll need that account and password to Sync Endnote libraries.

2. You must share Endnote libraries using Endnote and the Endnote cloud, NOT Dropbox.

3. There is no problem sharing Word documents via Dropbox.

4. You can install Endnote on up to 3 (including personal) machines as long as you are affiliated with MM.

5. Don't use Endnote on several machines simultaneously. It won't update correctly. Just use it, if you use it across several machines, in sequence, not in parallel.

The installers are on Endnote's installer page

You should have your Endnote account before starting the install so you can key it into Endnote to enable Sync in preferences after the install completes.

For CoreImage Devices (PCs that use an operating system configured and managed by HITS):

Use the EndNote HITS Service Catalog to get the software distributed to your machine (You will need the Device Name).

For non-CoreImage Devices or computers owned personally:

Requirements: You must be the administrator on your machine.

  1. Before installing, get the Endnote product code using the EndNote HITS Service Catalog
  2. The product code will be emailed to you, make a note of this for the installation.
  3. Get the installation software from EndNote Installers for Download.
  4. While installing either EndNote 20, EndNote X9 or EndNote X8, you can use the product key when selecting "Install Single or Workstation license" or simply launching the installer file.
