How do I know if Canvas is the right software for me to use for my use case? 

At the end of the day, it depends on the purpose of your request for a course. 

There are similar tools across campus that can carry out similar functionality. Typically, Canvas is used for the education of learners by teachers with the use case of providing material, engaging in discussion boards, assignments, and quizzes (along with other interactive Canvas features).

Cornerstone is used more for training, documenting compliance, and other mandatories.
