Introduction
How are canvas sites created? How do I create a course manually without a connection with the Student Information System Peoplesoft?
Instructions
Medical School Departments/Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
Courses are created automatically with the MPathways integration six months in advance of the term according to Central Campus documentation. This includes automatic enrollment of students in the Canvas site based on MPathways registration information.
Medical Student Education/Office of Medical Student Education
Certain administrative staff in the Office of Medical Student Education have the ability to create Canvas courses once advised by HITS Academic Applications team. Canvas Instructions can be followed with the following items to note:
- Use the same name for Course Name and Reference Code
- Utilize the most appropriate Subaccount listed or consult with Academic Applications what one to use
- For OMSE, utilize OMSE subaccount
- Select No Term for Enrollment Term
- Remove extraneous items in Navigation as appropriate
- Send resources for best practices as needed.
Sites can be requested by OMSE Staff or faculty. If a faculty requests a site, then it should be verified with OMSE Curriculum Office. If a staff member of the following list from OMSE requests a site, it can be completed without worry. Majority of the ad hoc sites asked to be created are in the Branches curriculum. Scientific Trunk and Clinical Trunk courses are created in the late Spring/Summer for the following years per the list of Common Tasks for OMSE.
When completed, verify with the requestor who should be added as a Teacher and you can provide Canvas learning resources for the requestor if they are unfamiliar with Canvas functionality.
Staff | Curricular Role |
Jonie Josephs/Renee Snodgrass | Scientific Trunk |
Rachel Sprovtsoff | Clinical Trunk |
Angela Hickey/Veronica Hall/Samiah Haque | Branches |
Stacie Buckler | Director of Curriculum |
For Canvas sites that are not for medical school courses, but perhaps for an organization, a project, or an initiative, submit a consult with Academic Applications
