Introduction
How do I copy course content (pages, quizzes, assignments, etc.) from a previous Canvas course to a new Canvas site?
Instructions
Important Information
There are two things to note when copying assignments and quizzes:
- Quizzes and assignments are automatically placed in the Published state in the new Canvas site, meaning students will be potentially notified based on their notification preferences and the assignment will be available to access to them unless you go in and immediately unpublish it. Further information is documented in this issue article.
- Quizzes and assignments should only be copied to a new Canvas site once. If you copy it to a new site, then delete it, then decide to copy it over again, it will not display in the new Canvas site again as the new site will still see that quiz or assignment as deleted. Further information is documented in this issue article.
- If you fall under this scenario, it is recommended you export the Quiz as a QTI file and then import the QTI file in the new Canvas site rather than use the Copy function.
How-To Guides
Canvas provides instructions on the following ways to copy course content (pages, assignments, modules, etc.):
In addition to the above methods, you can also copy and individual item (page, assignment, quiz, etc.) to a new course. Anywhere you see the three dot vertical ellipsis, there will most likely be a Copy to function which allows you to copy that individual item to a new course.
