SlicerDicer - Introduction

Introduction

Epic's SlicerDicer is an intuitive, self-service reporting tool within MiChart and can be used to explore customized data. Users can search specific populations to answer questions about diagnoses, demographics, procedures performed, etc. SlicerDicer can also be used to examine trends, drill down to line-level details, jump to related records to take action as needed, or integrate SD sessions with other reporting tools, such as dashboards.  Some key uses include:

  • Making new discoveries.
  • Parsing large quantities of data in minutes.
  • Investigating a hunch, then refining the search.
  • Finding patients for screening programs.
  • Spotting trends over time or based on patient location.
  • Tracking KPIs and following up with departments or individuals to implement
more efficient workflows and reduce costs.

GETTING STARTED WITH SLICERDICER

Information for accessing and using SlicerDicer from MiChart is available in the Michigan Medicine–authored  SlicerDicer Tip Book.

When using SlicerDicer for the first time, users must complete the online tutorial within the tool before any work can be done within the data model.

Keep in mind, the data you see in SlicerDicer is updated once a day, therefore it can be up to 24-hours old.

Researchers: If you plan to view patient-level details of a population for research purposes, you must meet the IRB-approval requirement for conducting research with sensitive PHI patient data in a secure and safe method. For more information, contact the Data Office for this approval: Data Office for Clinical and Translational Research.
