ARB Suite - Batch Grading

Introduction

Batch Grading screenshot

The Batch Grading tab in ARB>Grading allows grades to be captured, then released, for types of courses where there is no summary comment, no assessments to review and generally are graded satisfactory/unsatisfactory, for a large cohort of students.

This feature makes it possible anyone authorized for the Batch Grading Coordinator role to apply grades for a batch of students at a time as well as edit individual grades. The coordinator can also enter and edit Outstanding Requirements Notes for each grade.

When grades are ready for review, a faculty member who has the Batch Grading Approver role can go to the page, review the grades, and click a button to approve them. This releases grades to students' Learning Outcomes and adds them to a report that the Registrar team generates periodically in order to upload new or revised grades to MPathways.

Instructions

The Batch Grading page is a tab under the Grading hub. It is visible to you if you are authorized for the Batch Grading Coordinator or Approver role.

If you are in the Coordinator role, you can:

  • choose a grade in the dropdown on the left side above the table (eg Satisfactory)
  • click the checkbox to the left of Student Name to check all the rows
  • uncheck any students who don't get that grade
  • click Assign Grade
  • then see that grade applied to all those students in the Final Grade Column
  • edit any of those grades, or choose a different grade (eg Incomplete) for any student who didn't get the one that was batch assigned
  • click on a row to open a student's detail view where you can
    • choose or edit a grade
    • add or edit an Outstanding Requirements Note
  • email the Approver the URL of the page

If you are an Approver, you can

  • click on the link sent by the coordinator, or navigate to the Batch Grading tab in the Grading hub
  • review grades (you can sort the Grade or any other column, or use the Search/Filter box to help your review)
  • when ready, click the Finalize and Release Grades button
  • This releases grades to students' Learning Outcomes and adds them to the report the Registrar team runs periodically to upload grades to MPathways

Once initial grades have been finalized and released, Coordinators can return to the page as needed where you can:

  • reopen a grade by clicking on a student row and clicking the Reopen button
  • after reopening, change a grade
  • add or edit a Note by clicking on a student row and entering or editing in the Note box

If a Coordinator reopens a grade and makes changes, the Approver will then have to come to the page to Finalize and Release again.
