Tableau - Installation Options

Introduction

There are two Tableau desktop applications that are available for installation at Michigan Medicine: Tableau Desktop and Tableau Prep Builder.

Please note that you do not need a license to request installation, but you will need a paid license key to continue using the application after Tableau's two-week trial period. See Tableau - Licensing for more information.

When you are ready for software installation, you have several options for installing the software you want:

  • To install software on a Core-Imaged device running Windows 10, request the software from the Tableau Enterprise Tools Order Guide. With this option, your software will be automatically updated along with the Tableau Server so you always have the correct version.

  • To install software on a Mac or Non-Core DeviceDownload the software from Tableau and follow the instructions to install the software yourself. Be sure to first confirm that the version of the software you are installing is compatible with the version of Tableau Server that Michigan Medicine is running. Otherwise, you may run into conflicts when sharing visualizations on the server. To find the server version, go to the Michigan Medicine Tableau Server, click the question mark icon and then click About Tableau Server. You can download the appropriate version that matches the year.release.x of the server. For example, if the server was at 2021.2.3, you should install the newest version of 2021.2.x.

  • If you don't have permission to install software on your device, or if you need help, submit a request for help to the Service Desk.
