Office 365 - How to: Sign into Office 365 on a CoreImage or Flex PC (Windows)

Introduction

CoreImage and Flex PCs (Windows) should automatically sign users into Office 365.  However, under rare conditions Office 365 may ask the user to sign in.  Signing into Office 365 is required for full functionality.  Signing in activates Office 365 for a user on that computer.  If a user chooses not to sign in, the applications will only open in a read-only mode.

Instructions

If the CoreImage or Flex PC (Windows) does not automatically sign you into Office 365 when you open an Office application such as Word, you will see the following window.

  1. Click Sign in when presented with this window.

Note:  If this window does not appear but the Office application is reporting that it is in reduced functionality mode since a valid license is not available, click on File in the upper left of the Office application.  Select Office Account if in Outlook or Account if in other Office apps along the left hand column.  Sign out if you are signed in.  Sign in (again) with your Level-2 email address and password (see the following steps).  The Office applications should become properly licensed.

  2. Enter your Michigan Medicine email address (Level-2) when prompted:  uniqname@med.umich.edu.  Click Next.

  3. On the Michigan Medicine sign-in page, enter your password, then click Sign in.

  4. Respond to Duo multi-factor authentication, if prompted.  This will occur if the device is not on the Michigan Medicine network or VPN.

  5. You will now be logged into Office 365.

  6. You can check to validate that you are logged in by clicking on Account in an Office 365 application such as Word.

  7. You will see your account listed and your connected services such as OneDrive.
