Question
What security related settings does Windows Virtual Desktop have?
Answer
Users cannot do the following in WVD
- Print with the exception of MiChart server-side printing via Citrix
- Copy and Paste into or out of WVD
- Access local storage
- Install applications
- Run applications or scripts not in the start menu
Security Timers
- Session Lock: After 10 minutes of inactivity
- Enter your password on the standard Windows lock screen to regain access to your desktop.
- Session Disconnect: after 50 additional minutes (1 hour total) of inactivity
- Reconnecting requires relaunching WVD from within the Windows App or via the website. You'll reenter your username and password. However, you'll reconnect to your WVD session that is still running. Everything that you had open is still running. Reconnecting takes longer than a simple unlock since the process reconnects you to the WVD service and then automatically unlocks your session.
- When a device goes into standby or can no longer communicate across the internet, your WVD session will be disconnected and immediately start the 1-hour countdown to session termination.
- Session Termination: after an additional 1 hour (2 hours total) of inactivity
- Any unsaved work will be lost. Using the Windows App or the website to access WVD will start a new session.
