Step 2. Confirm installation to install outside of business hours.

  • Select "Outside my business hours" (default business hours are 5am-10am.)
    • Because the option to change your business hours is not currently available, clicking on Configure my business hours will open Software Center but will not present a menu with configurable start and end times.
    • There is also the option to check the box for "Restart my computer automatically if needed."
  • Click on OK.

  • Once business hours have ended (globally configured to be 10:00 pm) and the machine is powered on, the install will begin in the background.
    • If you checked "Restart my computer automatically..."  the notification for restart countdown will appear (which can be snoozed up until the last 15 minutes of the countdown).

Step 5: Receive notification for restart.

  • The notification informs you that you'll be signed out of Windows and your computer will shut down.
  • Click on Close and make sure to save any work before the machine shuts down.

  • The first part of the Windows 11 upgrade will take a long and variable amount of time in the background, possibly up to two hours.  During this "online" portion of the upgrade, you can continue to use the device.  However, a reboot is needed to complete the upgrade.  Once the device reboots, it goes into the "offline" portion of the upgrade which may take as little as 20 minutes or possibly longer than 80 minutes, depending on the age and performance of the device.

Step 6: Confirm that your upgrade was successful.
