Outlook - How to open a folder shared with you


Introduction

A co-worker or a resource account may have shared a folder in their mailbox with you.

These instructions will guide you in accessing those folders using the Classic Outlook client.

Note: The instructions below are only applicable to the Classic Outlook desktop client--not Outlook on the web or the New Outlook client (not-supported by HITS).

Instructions

After someone grants you access to (i.e., shares) folders in their mailbox, you must take these steps in your Classic Outlook client.

  1. Click the File tab on the top ribbon of Outlook.


  2. Click Account Settings > Account Settings...


  3. Click Change...


  4. Click More Settings.


  5. Click Advanced.


  6. Click Add.


  7. Type the exact name of the person or resource account who shared the folder(s) with you (Last Name, First Name), then click OK.


  8. Click Apply > OK.


  9. Click Next.


  10. Click Done.


  11. Restart Outlook.

  12. The list of accounts in the Folder Pane in Outlook will now show the user or resource mailbox with the shared folder(s).
