Introduction
Chat history, also known as persistent chat, is available in Teams by using a Channel (within a Team) or Private Chat that persists over time. Either method enables you to communicate and collaborate with a group of people who have common interests. You can share ideas and information by posting messages in real time, and all messages are stored for a period of one year. Chat history is a great way to add efficiencies to your online activity.
Channels and Group Chats are:
- Easy to access.
- A way to organize and contain communications.
- Easy to monitor – you can set up notifications that alert you to new messages.
- Ideal for evolving topics. Chat rooms provide a place to post and review news and new thinking.
Consider using Channels and Group Chats to:
- Brainstorm.
- Coordinate events.
- Create ask-the-expert/Q&A forums.
- Create a bulletin-board environment for evolving topics.
- Collect feedback from colleagues/test new features.
- Share information between employees across shifts.
* Migrating chats from other tools into Microsoft Teams is not available *
* Messages within Teams are retained for a period of one year, after this period the messages will be deleted. This message retention policy applies to Chat Messages (Private and Group), Public Channels and Private Channels. Files that are shared within channels are not affected by the retention policy, but chat messages (Private and Group) are. They will be deleted after 365 days. *
