iPhone - How to Set Up a Focus on iOS


Introduction

 

This document will walk you through the process of setting up and enabling the Focus feature on iOS.

Focus is used to manage notifications for personal or work applications based on a custom schedule.

For additional details, reference the User Guide from Apple.

 

 

 

Instructions

 

 

Configure Work Focus to Opt-In to Notifications

1. Open the Settings menu

 

2. Tap Focus

 

3. Select Work

 

4. Tap Choose Apps

 

5. Select Allow Notifications From, then tap Add Apps

 

6. Select the apps from the list you would like to receive notifications from while the focus is active, then tap Done

 

7. Tap Work Focus to return to the Work Focus menu

Note: The following steps are optional. If you would like to configure your Focus to turn on/off following a set schedule, continue below.

If you would prefer to toggle on/off your created Focus manually, proceed to the Enable Focus part of this document.

8. Tap Add Schedule

 

9. Select the criteria you would like to automatically enable the focus

Note: The following example will use a Time based schedule to automatically enable the Work Focus, however, other options are available if you would prefer

 

10. Set your preferred schedule to automatically enable the Focus around your work schedule, then tap Done
Note: The Focus may still be enabled/disable manually via the Control Center. Reference the Enable Focus section for more information.

 

 

Configure Personal Focus to Opt-Out of Notifications

1. Open Settings

 

2. Tap Focus

 

3. Select Personal

 

4. Tap Apps

 

5. Select Silence Notifications From, then tap Add Apps 

 

6. Select the applications you would like to silence while the Focus is enabled, then tap Done

 

7. Tap Back to return to the Personal Focus menu

Note: The following steps are optional. If you would like to configure your Focus to turn on/off following a set schedule, continue below.

If you would prefer to toggle on/off your created Focus manually, proceed to the Enable Focus part of this document.

8. Tap Add Schedule

 

9. Select the criteria you would like to automatically enable the focus

Note: The following example will use a Time based schedule to automatically enable the Personal Focus, however, other options are available if you would prefer

 

10. Set your preferred schedule to automatically enable the Focus around your personal schedule, then tap Done
Note: The Focus may still be enabled/disable manually via the Control Center. Reference the Enable Focus section for more information.

 

 

Enable Focus

1. Pull down from the top right corner of the phone screen to access the Control Center, then tap Focus

 

2. Tap on the Focus you would like to enable

Note: You may tap on the three dots next to any Focus for custom options, such as enabling the Focus for a limited period of time, or until you reach a certain location.

 

3. Once a Focus has been selected, it will highlight to show as active and display the time or condition when the focus will automatically disable, if applicable

Note: You may tap on any active Focus to disable it manually.
