IT - Two-Factor Authentication (Duo)


Overview

University of Michigan (U-M) uses Duo two-factor authentication to protect U-M systems, data, and your personal information.

Important Alert If you receive an unsolicited Duo Push (i.e., you did not initiate the request), your credentials may be compromised. Contact the HITS Service Desk at 6-8000 for assistance.

If you receive an unexpected Duo Push notification on your smartphone:

  • Do not accept it.
  • Press Deny in the Duo app.
  • Report it to HITS immediately.

What is Two-Factor Authentication?

  • A mobile app or hardware token

Duo is a two-factor authentication service that helps protect sensitive information, including:

  • Direct deposit details
  • W2 tax forms
  • Electronic Prescription of Controlled Substances (EPCS)
  • Remote Access (VPN) Service
  • Outlook on the web
  • Other services as determined by security assessments
