Enroll in Okta Using the Okta Verify App (First Time Only)


Introduction

 

These instructions are for first-time enrollment in Okta. If you’ve previously enrolled in Okta and need to add or change devices, you can follow the following article KB0032615 - Add, Remove, or Reactivate Devices in Okta. If you do not have a backup device (e.g., replacing a lost phone), please chat or call the HITS Service Desk for assistance.

 

Instructions

Install Okta Verify App

For a smooth enrollment process, we suggest you download the Okta Verify app before starting the process.

 

InTune managed devices

For devices managed in InTune:

  1. Open the Comp Portal or Company Portal app on your smart device
  2. Type Okta in the search bar and hit "Search"
  3. Click Okta Verify
  4. Hit the install button

Non-InTune managed devices (personal)

For devices NOT managed in InTune, you can search for and install Okta Verify from the Google Play Store, or Apple App Store.

 

Initial Enrollment

  1. Navigate to the Okta Portal
  2. Enter your uniqname or email address and click Next.
  3. Enter your UMICH password and click Verify.
  4. Click Duo - Set up.
  5. Click Enroll and complete Duo authentication.
  6. Click Okta Verify - Set up.
  7. Open the Okta Verify mobile app. 
  8. In the Okta Verify app, tap Get Started.
  9. Tap Next.
  10. Tap Add Account.
  11. Tap Organization.
  12. Tap Skip on the "Add account from another device?" screen.
  13. Tap Yes, ready to scan and scan the QR code that displays on your computer.

Note: If you cannot scan a QR code on your mobile device, click Can’t scan? on your computer and follow the instructions to receive an SMS verification code. 

  1. If desired, tap Enable to enable biometric authentication. Otherwise, tap Not Now.
  2. Click Done.
  3. On your computer, click Continue.
  4. You have completed Okta Enrollment.
