CryoEM (Cryo-Electron Microscopy) High-Performance Computing Service - Landing Page

Overview

The CryoEM High-Performance Computing service is designed to be an economical and sustainable enterprise solution for the CryoEM analysis toolchain, currently specifically for the application Cryosparc. This service sought to provide basic computing resources for CryoEM researchers to build off of, as well as, remove the need for undermanaged, individual large computing systems residing in lab spaces. Academic IT partnered with the Life Sciences Institute (LSI) to leverage their deep knowledge of running Cryosparc, as well as, integrating it into an enterprise grade on-premise acquisition workflow. This service runs in conjunction with storage solutions provided by Advanced Research Computing (ARC) and the individual labs RCP (Research Computing Package)/RCI (Research Computing Investments) allocations. Tier 1 support for Michigan Medicine Researchers is provided by the HITS Academic Computing and the maintenance and operations are handled by LSI IT. The service is rated for moderate data. Sensitive data is not permitted on CryoEM related services.

A single head node, three worker nodes and limited shared turbo storage are provided as a shared resource. The service is a limited resource provided to be a framework for labs to get started with the CryoEM analysis. This is not expected to provide all the resources for all CryoEM computing. Labs should expect to purchase additional computing resources, such as worker nodes, as their needs develop.
