Common Issues and Migration-Related FAQs

Outlook and Email

IssueOutlook desktop app failing to launch, freezing, or stuck in certificate/authentication loops, while Outlook Web (OWA) works

SolutionUse Outlook Web Access (OWA) instead of the desktop client when desktop Outlook fails.


Issue: Missing or delayed emails, gaps in mailbox history, etc.

SolutionLaunch Outlook via shortcuts in the “Mich Med Migration” desktop folderand sign in explicitly with the @uofmhealth.org account.


IssueSending failures unless the full legacy address (for example @umhwest.org or @umhsparrow ) is typed.

SolutionType out the full legacy email address when sending to West/Sparrow users if autocomplete fails.


Microsoft Teams

Issue: Desktop Teams not opening, freezing, or claiming the user is not logged in; web version of Teams works.

Solution: Use Teams in a web browser (Edge) when the desktop app fails. Switch to an Edge Guest profile or create a new Edge profile, then sign in with @uofmhealth.org account.


Issue: Teams meeting button missing in Outlook (only Zoom visible); Favorite chats not persisting.

Solution: Missing Teams icons or add‑ins sometimes required IT to remote in and re‑add them. In some cases, restarting Teams resolves missing features such as favorites or add‑ins.

Calendar & Meetings

IssueRecurring meetings sending multiple daily invites instead of one series.

SolutionSome calendar issues resolved after waiting for sync/cached mode to catch up


Issue: Shared calendars missing or inaccessible in New Outlook.

SolutionRestarting Outlook or re‑adding shared calendars worked for some users.


Issue: Can't find a shared mailbox.

Solution: If you do not see one of your shared mailboxes, follow these instructions to re-add a shared mailbox. If you cannot add it, submit a ticket.

OneDrive & File Access

Issue:  OneDrive desktop app errors while web access works.

Solution:  Access files temporarily via OneDrive on the web when the desktop client fails.


Issue:  Epic exports not showing OneDrive as a destination

Solution:  Copy files locally (for example to C:\ or Desktop) as a temporary workaround if apps cannot see the correct OneDrive path.


OneNote

Issue:  Blank or missing notebooks.

Solution:  Try opening and signing in to your (new) OneDrive, and wait a bit for your OneNote folders to reconnect.

Authentication, Certificates & Access

Issue:  Certificate pop‑ups looping

Solution:   Click the certificate entry itself before selecting OK during login prompts.


Issue:  AADSTS errors for apps like ServiceNow

Solution:   Use Edge Guest mode or a fresh Edge profile to avoid cached credentials.

Mobile Devices/Intune

Issue:  Outlook and Teams not syncing on phones

Solution:  Only one Intune Company Portal profile can exist at a time; users must remove the old profile before adding the new one.
