Intune Mobile - How to enroll an iPhone or iPad


Introduction

Before You Begin Checklist

  1. Operating System Requirement: iOS 16 and above
    1. How to check your iOS version
    2. Current compatible operating systems

  2. Make sure your device is fully charged; at least 50% required, preferably plugged into a charger.
    1. Optional: Make a new iCloud backup just in case you run into any issues.
    2. How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
    3. Recommended:  Back up your iPhone with iCloud

  3. Have a 6-digit alphanumeric or all-numeric Passcode ready for your device
    1. This is required by Compliance and Information Assurance (Security)
    2. Biometrics (Face, Finger, Watch) count as a Passcode / Password

  4. Know your uniqname and UMICH password.

  5. Have Duo already configured.  Instructions to enroll are available in this article: Duo - Enroll iPhone.

  6. Have your Apple ID account information.

  7. Have internet connectivity:  You can enroll on Cellular, but Wi-Fi is preferred.

 

 

 

Instructions

 

 

Microsoft Authenticator Setup

 

1. Visit the Apple App Store and download the Microsoft Authenticator and Intune Company Portal apps

Once the apps are installed, open Microsoft Authenticator to begin the enrollment process


 

2. Tap Accept to continue

 

3. Tap Continue

 

4. Press Add work or school account 

 

5. Enter your @med.umich.edu address, then tap Next

 

6. Enter your UMICH password, then tap Sign in

7a. If you already have Authenticator set up on another device, you will receive a prompt within the Authenticator app on your other device to proceed with the login.

If you do not have Authenticator already configured on another device, skip to step 7b.

 

 

7b. If you do not have Authenticator set up elsewhere you will be prompted to continue in a web browser. 

Tap Open browser

 

 

8. Enter your @med.umich.edu address, then press Next

 

9. Enter your UMICH password, then tap Sign in

 

10. Tap Next

 

11. Tap Next

 

12. Tap Pair your account to the app by clicking this link

 

13. Tap Open

 

14. Tap Allow

 

15. Your Authenticator application will ask you to enter a number to confirm your sign in attempt.

This number can be found in the previous browser window. Enter the number shown in your browser, then tap Yes to continue

 

 

16. Tap Next

 

17. Tap Done

 

 

 

 

Enroll to Company Portal

 

1. Open the Company Portal app, then tap Sign in 

 

2. Your device should briefly open Microsoft Authenticator, then return to the Company Portal.

In the Company Portal, press OK to continue

 

 

3. Tap Allow

 

 

4. Tap Begin

 

 

5. Tap Continue

 

 

6. Tap Continue

 

 

7. Tap Allow

 

 

8. Tap Close

 

 

9. Navigate to your device's Settings menu

 

 

10. Tap on Profile Downloaded

 

 

11. Tap Install

 

 

12. Tap Install

 

 

13. Tap Install

 

 

14. Tap Trust

 

 

15. Tap Done

 

 

16. Return to the Company Portal app to proceed with the next enrollment steps, then tap Continue

 

 

17. Tap Continue

 

 

18. When prompted for a Device Category, select Personal Device, then tap Continue

 

 

19. If your device does not already have a lock screen passcode, or if the passcode is less than 6 digits, you will be prompted to set one. 

Tap Change Now to enter your device's new passcode, then tap Continue

 

 

 

Outlook Setup

 

Note: Outlook will be automatically installed after enrollment.This may take up to 30 minutes depending on how long it takes to apply the new management policy.

1. Open the Outlook app

 

 

2. Tap Add Account

 

 

3. Your Microsoft 365 account should automatically populate. Tap Add Account

 

 

4. You will be prompted to open Microsoft Authenticator, tap Open Authenticator 

 

 

5. Authenticator will briefly open, then return to Outlook. 

Tap Maybe Later when prompted to add another account to Outlook

 

 

Your mailbox should open and begin syncing.
