ZEBRA ZD410 LABEL PRINTER SETUP for MICHART WRISTBANDS

Instructions

ZEBRA ZD410 LABEL PRINTER SETUP for MICHART WRISTBANDS

Wristbands continue to be hard to set up initially in the ZD410s. Here are a few tips and tricks.

Short version-

Install media roll before powering on for the first time.

Insert media, then Ethernet, then power cable.

The ZD410 will self-calibrate when powered up the first time. It may spit out several wristbands.

The wristbands don't always calibrate the first time. You may have to calibrate 3 times to get a green light. The printer will typically spit 3 labels out to complete calibration. Once calibrated properly, the printer will remember the settings, and will realign each time it feeds or prints as long as media type is Non-Continuous. Don't recalibrate when changing the roll.

To calibrate manually, hold down the Pause and Cancel buttons till the printer starts to move.

First time calibration works better on half a roll. Unroll a few feet if it's a full roll; then rewind them after it calibrates successfully. It also doesn't work well on an almost empty roll.

Once the settings are saved, they should work going forward.

Calibrating wipes out all settings and starts over.

Calibrate only when setting up the printer, or if labels are not aligning properly.

Do NOT recalibrate if the labels are properly aligned.

See below for more details.

Manual Media settings by Browser for Zebra ZD410 Adult Wristbands:

The media settings should be as follows: If calibration alignment doesn't set properly after 3 calibration attempts, you can go into the web interface and set these manually if needed.

Media Settings:

SENSOR TYPE

MARK

black mark on bottom side of media

MEDIA TYPE

NON-CONTINUOUS

label has starting and end point and perforations

Max Length

7967

Estimates - 1826 for Child wristbands

Don't change default power on or head open to calibrate.

Calibration Settings:        leave these set to the defaults-

POWER ON        NO MOTION

HEAD OPEN       FEED

When changing the media roll:  close the head, and hit feed once.

The Feed function realigns the label and should stop at the right place.

Do not recalibrate when changing rolls – that will wipe out all settings.

First time media setup –

Follow standard process to configure network settings.

Insert media roll before powering the printer on for the first time.

Insert media roll, then Ethernet cable, then power cable.

Power on printer.

It should self-calibrate, spitting out about 3 wristbands.

Hit un-pause button, then Feed button, to ensure the labels are positioning properly.

Reboot printer if necessary.

When wristband is aligned it will stop with the small hole showing about ½" inch from the print head.

If this doesn't work, try manual calibration-

Two finger calibrate, 3 times (Hold Pause and cancel buttons 2 seconds till printer starts moving).

It can take 3 attempts to complete the first calibration for wristbands. *

If the lights are still red, the calibration is not complete.

Use the pause button to unpause, then Feed twice to test.

If lights are red, reboot the printer.

If lights are still red, or wristband is not aligned, update settings manually in the web interface, below.

After calibrating, log on to the web interface to confirm settings.

*If you recall, the older models spit out 3 wristbands when they calibrate once.

With this model you have to calibrate 3 times to get 3 wristbands fed through the print head.

Run a SmartCal Media Calibration

The printer needs to set the media parameters for prior to printing optimal operation. The printer will automatically determine media type (web/gap, black mark/notch, or continuous) and measure media characteristics.

Important-  After the initial calibration to a specific media is completed, it is not required to perform additional calibrations each time the media is replaced. The printer automatically measures the media to adjust for small changes in the media characteristics while printing.

Pressing the FEED (Advance) once or twice after a new roll of media (same batch) has been installed will synchronize the labels. It is then ready to continue printing.
