Introduction
If a vendor will need independent access to a Michigan Medicine device, they can be granted a sponsored account to have access to Michigan Medicine devices. Once they have this, they can access the machine through either Microsoft Remote Desktop (Also known as the Windows App) or via an SSH client like PuTTY. Directions for how to configure both are available below.
Instructions
-
First, will need a Michigan Medicine sponsored account for the Vendor
-
You can request an account via the Account Request Tool here: https://lvl2.med.umich.edu/art/#!/
- Please bear in mind that the Account Request Tool is typically only available to certain administrators within a department. If you're unsure who has access for your department, please submit a ticket to the Service Desk.
-
-
Once this is created, the vendor can log in to Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD)
-
WVD is accessible at virtual.med.umich.edu
- This will allow a vendor to access a Michigan Medicine device without the need for a VPN, which is limited to CoreImage devices.
-
-
Once logged in, there are 2 ways to connect available in WVD
-
Putty
-
Open PuTTY and enter your target device’s hostname in the listed field
-
Select to connect, and you’ll be prompted to enter your Michigan Medicine username
-
Enter your password, and you’ll be granted terminal access to the device.
-
Please note that for managed Linux servers, you may be prompted to authenticate with DUO before you can connect.
-
-
-
Microsoft Remote Desktop
-
Open Remote Desktop and enter the target Device hostname
-
Select to connect, and log in with your Michigan Medicine username and password
-
This should open to a full GUI of the device
-
Please note, on the majority of devices, you will only be able to have one individual logged in at a time, so you will not be able to see what the vendor is doing unless they are present with you.
