Answers to commonly-asked questions about the OneM365 project.

What is “OneM365?”

OneM365 is a project being led by Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) to unify everyone across U-M Health, U-M Medical School, UM Health–West, and UMHealth–Sparrow into a unified Microsoft 365 (M365) environment

What is the goal?

When complete, all Michigan Medicine faculty, staff, and students across all regions will share a common suite of powerful tools like Teams, Outlook, Office, OneDrive, SharePoint, and more. This will not only increase productivity but also to create a cohesive experience where we can all work as if in the same “virtual building.”

What is the timeline?

This project is projected to be complete by early 2026.

What are the benefits?

Once implemented, partners across Michigan Medicine, including U-M Health, UMH-West, and UMH-Sparrow, will enjoy:

  • Effortless Collaboration: Access, share and collaborate on files and folders in SharePoint and OneDrive for Business without the hassle of managing special permissions or dealing with expiring links.
  • Unified Communication: Create and participate in Microsoft Teams channels, video conferencing and chat threads, and email partners in a unified environment.
  • Persistent Access: Share access to files, folders, Teams channels and chat discussions that remain available beyond the end of a Teams meeting or a specific date.
  • Seamless Integration: A smoother experience when accessing individual profile information and calendar details.
What else is changing?
  • U-M Health–West and UM Health–Sparrow will have a new 2-year email and Microsoft Teams message retention policy. Resources and guidance will be provided to help everyone understand the policy and prepare for this transition.–
  • There will be some updates to certain M365 tools to align them to our new shared platform.
What resources and support will be available during this transition?

Moving to a unified M365 platform will bring some changes. To support everyone through this journey, our project team is developing a comprehensive plan to ensure readiness and smooth adaptation across all regions. We’ve also launched a dedicated website, OneM365, to serve as a central hub for information, resources, and support.
