Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) is leading a strategic initiative to unify the Microsoft 365 (M365) environments across the Michigan Medicine enterprise—including U-M Health, UM Health-West, and UM Health-Sparrow. Historically, these entities have operated within separate M365 instances, which has created barriers to seamless collaboration and communication. By consolidating into a single, secure M365 environment, we aim to create a more connected and efficient digital workplace that supports our shared mission of excellence in patient care, education, and research.

Purpose and Objectives

This project is designed to deliver long-term value by aligning our digital tools and platforms. Key goals include:

  • Enable Seamless Collaboration - Allow all Michigan Medicine employees to work together as if in the same “virtual building,” regardless of location or department.
  • Standardize Tools and Access - Provide a consistent set of productivity and communication tools—such as OneDrive, Teams, and Outlook—across the organization.
  • Enhance Security and Compliance - Strengthen data protection and ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory standards through a unified platform.
  • Improve User Experience - Simplify workflows and reduce friction by eliminating the need to switch between separate systems.
