Classic-CoreImage - How to run Maintenance

Introduction

If you have requested a change to your Classic-CoreImage computer such as installing new software, you can run Maintenance on-demand following the instructions below. You must be connected to the Michigan Medicine network either through a wired connection (Ethernet), wireless (Mfleet or UMHS-8021X), or--if remote--via the VPN (Cisco Secure Client).  Depending on the scope of changes you requested, Maintenance may take as little as 15 minutes to complete, but some software package installations could dramatically increase its time to complete.

If Maintenance determines that the computer needs to reboot to finish implementing the changes or if an application update occurred that requires a reboot to complete, Maintenance will start an application that pops a window on-screen with a ten-minute countdown. You can delay the countdown via preconfigured options in a dropdown menu.  If you ignore the countdown, at one minute prior to the automated reboot the application will pop back to the foreground and begin flashing.  If you do not take any action to delay the reboot, the application will initiate a forced reboot that will close all open applications even if they have unsaved data.

Instructions to run Maintenance on-demand

  1. Click on the Start Menu and select Software Center.
    Windows 10 Windows 11

  2. Under Applications tab, select CoreImage Maintenance. Note that the version may change.  In the image below, Maintenance is at version 6.02.  Expect this version or newer to appear over time.

  3. Click on Install/Reinstall/Retry.

A new progress bar will appear. You can work while it runs, but you will be unable to minimize it.

  4. You may be prompted to restart your computer depending on the changes Maintenance made.  A reboot timer will appear with a ten-minute countdown. At one minute prior to the automated reboot, it will reappear and begin flashing.  At any point prior to the reboot, you can use the dropdown in the application to delay the reboot for up to 3 hours.  Once the timer expires, the application initiates a forced reboot that will close all open applications even if they have unsaved data.

Please note: Unless otherwise configured by HITS at the customer's request, Maintenance automatically runs daily.
