Introduction
Users of personally owned PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, and other devices are able to access Michigan Medicine email using Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) or the Outlook Virtual App.
Use of Outlook desktop or Outlook on the web is blocked by policy for use on personally owned PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, and other unmanaged devices. Instead, HITS offers WVD to access the Outlook desktop application via a shared Windows 11 virtual computer running in the cloud. HITS also offers the Outlook Virtual App for those users that were accustomed to using Outlook on the web or were performing other basic Outlook-focused workflows on their personal devices. See the instructions section below for links to learn more about these options.
You should not use WVD or Virtual Apps if you have a Michigan Medicine managed device:
- CoreImage PCs come preconfigured with Outlook set to use your Michigan Medicine email.
- CoreMac ("Izzy") devices come with Office 365 installed; however, you will have to log into Office and thereby Outlook with your Michigan Medicine email address to access your mailbox.
To use mobile device to access your email, please refer to Outlook - How do I access my email on my Apple or Android mobile devices?
