Introduction
Outlook is your email account as long as you are working for Michigan Medicine.
Your Michigan Medicine password is used daily to access Michigan Medicine resources, including Outlook.
Instructions
If you leave Michigan Medicine - and no longer work for Michigan Medicine in any capacity, you will lose your Michigan Medicine Outlook email account (@med.umich.edu), as well as your Michigan Medicine account.
If you leave the University of Michigan entirely, you will also lose your UMICH access to all campus services, including your @umich.edu email account.
Prior to your leaving Michigan Medicine, employees who want @umich.edu email access can activate their @umich.edu email account through Google at U-M, which is accessible using your UMICH credentials. To request access submit the 'Access Google at U-M email and calendar' request through the Michigan Medicine Help Center.
Former Michigan Medicine personnel may retain their UMICH account, email, and password, but only if they work for the University in a new capacity (i.e., outside of Michigan Medicine).
Other ways to retain UMICH access are:
- If you are a University of Michigan alumnus/a, or
- If you are a University of Michigan or Michigan Medicine retiree. Other people can get a UMICH account for a fee
Have callers contact ITS at (734) 764-4357 for more information.
Retain access to Michigan Medicine Outlook/Exchange after retirement
Outlook stays for 30 days after the account is disabled before all Outlook emails/data is purged.
The HITS Service Desk can enable the account 1 time, which enables Outlook for 72 hours. This option requires the customer's manager's authorization during the call.
Alternatively, they can go to their Account Liaison to submit an affiliate Michigan Medicine account request via the Account Request tool after retirement.
It's up to the Department to set how long they can have access to Michigan Medicine Access.
