CoreImage - How to find your CoreImage device's name

Introduction

Classic-CoreImage devices (Windows) are identified by a unique eight character name referred to as a Device Name. Note that previously HITS used the name "TermID," but to better align with Microsoft's tools HITS converted from using TermID to Device Name.

Intune-CoreImage devices also have Device Names but their format only contains the device's serial number prefixed with "MM-" (e.g., MM-123ABC).

Both types of CoreImage devices will generally have a physical tag attached to them featuring the Device Name, but they can also be identified within the Microsoft Windows Settings application.

It is important to know your computer's Device Name when interacting with HITS Support staff (and other groups with similar roles) staff.  Communicating it to them allows the support staff to find critical information related to your system, and it will help them more reliably diagnose and fix issues.

Note: CoreMac will require relaying the serial number of the device for a ticket.  If the Mac has a label on it with an 8-character name, you may ignore it and report the serial number instead.
