Overview

An affiliate (non-employee) appointment is a sponsored Michigan Medicine account outside of the HR/employee process. When requesting an account, select the generic job from the list below that best identifies your affiliate's relationship with Michigan Medicine.

 

Definitions:

Access Liaison (Sponsor): Individual who has been approved by leadership within a department to manage their affiliate's sponsorship within the Account Request Tool.

Responsible Person: Individual who has been identified by HR to be responsible for a department(s).

Affiliate (Non-employee): An individual who participates in Michigan Medicine workspace and requires Michigan Medicine (Level-2) sponsorship, but is not an employee.

Appointment: A structure that defines department, job code, sponsor, start date, and end date for either a Michigan Medicine affiliate or employee.

Employee: An individual who has a University of Michigan Human Resource (HR) appointment, which reports to the Executive Vice President of Medical Affairs (EVPMA).

Researcher

An affiliate who requires Michigan Medicine access for research purposes. These affiliates may be sponsored by an IRB study.

Contractor

An Affiliate from an outside contractor company that provides supplemental staff for Michigan Medicine to function in regular workforce positions - or to work on a project. The project(s) could be related to facilities, IT, process consulting, marketing, management, etc.

An Affiliate that is part of a student program.

An Affiliate that provides services to Michigan Medicine from a vendor company. These Affiliates require Michigan Medicine access so they can support their products and services.

Affiliates that requires Michigan Medicine access as a part of a volunteer placement.

Pre-Hire

An Affiliate that requires Michigan Medicine access prior to their HR Appointment "Start Date."

The purpose of this affiliate type is to provide basic non-clinical services, such as training and Michigan Medicine email prior to the start date of their Michigan Medicine HR appointment.

Clinical

An Affiliate who needs access to Michigan Medicine clinical systems (MiChart, Centricity, etc.). These affiliates may or may not have direct patient contact.

Non-Clinical

An Affiliate outside of a vendor or contract relationship that needs access to Michigan Medicine systems (Email, MLearning, Tableau, etc.). These affiliates are not permitted or given access to MiChart or patient data.
