Qualtrics - Passing Information between Surveys

Introduction

In instances where a customer wants to pass information from one survey to another, a Contact List Trigger can be used.

For example, if a department wants to use Qualtrics to conduct a set of evaluations where the results of a self-evalution are then given to a manager to evaluate (and then agree or disagree), a pair or surveys can be constructed to allow for this functionality. This "evaluation survey chain" typically has the first survey (the Self-Evaluation survey) use a Contact List Trigger to populate a contact list with embedded data to be inclided in the second survey (the Manager survey).  This example is used to describe the process on this page.

First (Self-Evaluation) Survey

A contact list trigger allows an existing contact list to be populated with specific information obtained from the current survey. This contact list can then be used to include information from the original survey in the second survey.

After creating the Self-Evaluation survey, click the Tools button, select Triggers, and then select Contact List Triggers...  As part of the contact list trigger, in addition to the basic contact information for the recipient (the manager), add a field for each piece of information to include in the Manager's survey. Note: The XM Directory task under Workflows works the same as contact list triggers, but with several improvements. Because of these improvements, Qualtrics often recommends using the XM Directory task instead.

Second (Manager) Survey

In the Manager survey, add a block to its survey flow that pulls the embedded data from the contact list. For simplicity, use the same names for the fields as in the contact list trigger. Specific instructions can be found at the following link:
