Troubleshooting

Your first stop in troubleshooting Microsoft 365 Apps issues:  Use Microsoft's Support and Recovery Assistant.

Known Issues

  • General:  White or black bar at the top of the screen (Windows).
    • Workaround:  Use the key combo of the Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B to reset the display, or if you are using Chrome or Edge when it happens, hit F11 twice.

  • General:  Office applications show a warning and ask you to sign in.
    • Workaround:  Sign in with your Michigan Medicine (Level 2) account.  This may happen once every 7 days on a CoreImage if the device has not connected to VPN during that period of time.

  • General:  Windows notifies you that you have a "Work or school account problem" when you log in.
    • Workaround:  Click the notification and proceed to click "Fix now" in Shared Experiences.  This may happen once every 7 days on a CoreImage if the device has not connected to VPN during that period of time.

  • General:  I cannot change my Microsoft 365 profile picture, but I sometimes see others have profile pictures.
    • If you want to use your MCard photo as your profile picture, please follow these instructions.  Michigan Medicine does not permit custom profile pictures.

  • OneDrive:  OneDrive asks you to sign in again.
    • Workaround:  Sign in with your Michigan Medicine (Level 2) account.  This may happen once every 7 days on a CoreImage if the device has not connected to VPN during that period of time.

  • OneDrive:  OneDrive reports that a file type is not being synced.
    • Answer:  To address issues with syncing shortcuts, .LNK files are not synced.

  • OneNote: After my Documents folder moved to OneDrive, where are my OneNote notebooks?
    • Answer:  When the Documents folder is moved to the "OneDrive - Michigan Medicine" folder as part of the OneDrive backup process, your OneNote notebooks are converted into a format compatible with OneDrive which is built on SharePoint.  If your OneNote application doesn't automatically load them, you can access them by opening the folder "OneDrive - Michigan Medicine\Notebooks" in OneNote.  Even if you don't see the files there, OneNote knows to follow that folder to OneDrive in the cloud and open them.

  • Outlook:  The ribbon does not have the buttons that I am used to.
  • Outlook:  Auto-complete no longer finds previously used email addresses.
  • Outlook:  I'm asked for my password, I enter it, and I am immediately asked for it again (CoreImage)
  • Word:  EndNote Cite While You Write add-in doesn't appear.
