Introduction
If EndNote was installed prior to installing Office 365, the Cite While You Write add-in won't appear and needs to be reenabled.
Instructions
- Close Microsoft Word and PowerPoint if you have them open before continuing.
- Run Configure EndNote.exe from either of the following version-specific locations:
- EndNote X20 is found here – C:\Program Files (x86)\EndNote 20\
- EndNote X21 is found here – C:\Program Files (x86)\EndNote 21\
- In the EndNote Configuration window:
- Select Configure EndNote components, then select Next.
- Check the Cite While You Write add-in for Microsoft Office checkbox, then select Next.
- You may receive a UAC prompt. Follow the Just-in-Time (JIT) Elevated Privileged Access instructions.
- Select Finish.
- Select Configure EndNote components, then select Next.
- Open Word and verify that EndNote shows in the Ribbon.
Troubleshooting
If EndNote is not in the Ribbon after running Configure EndNote.exe, follow these steps.
- Open Microsoft Word, go to File > Options.
- In the Word Options dialog, click Trust Center, then Trust Center Settings...
- In the Trust Center dialog, click Add-ins.
- Ensure Disable all Application Add-ins (may impair functionality) is NOT checked, then click OK.
- In the Word Options dialog, click Add-ins, then click Go...
- Check the box next to EndNote Cite While You Write, then click OK.
- Restart Microsoft Word.
- Verify EndNote is in the Ribbon.
