Office 365 - How to resolve unlicensed Office apps and repeated requests to login


Introduction

You may encounter CoreImage or Flex PCs that report licensing or activation errors in Office 365 applications.

Or you may be repeatedly requested for your UMICH password while in Outlook.

 

Some examples of messages related to licensing and activation:

Messaging about an unlicensed product

Messaging about a product notice

 

Outlook asking for your password:

Outlook login window

Note: This may appear a few times when you start Outlook depending on a few conditions, but if Outlook incessantly asks for your password, please follow the instructions below.

Instructions

The following steps apply in both situations mentioned above.

  1. Close Outlook if it is open.
  2. Open Microsoft Word.
  3. Click Account.
  4. Sign out of both UMICH and Michigan Medicine accounts.
    • Click Switch account if needed.

  5. Sign in with your Michigan Medicine email address only.
  6. You can now launch Outlook if desired.

 

For CoreMac devices with Office applications stuck on a UMICH account:

  1. Close Outlook if it is open.
  2. Open Microsoft Word.
  3. Click Help in the menu bar.
  4. Click Clear Application Data.
  5. Select the checkbox for Accounts and Licenses.
  6. Login with your Michigan Medicine (uniqname@med.umich.edu) email address.
