Microsoft Planner (M365)


Overview

Planner is a light weight, mobile and web-based application providing you and your team project management features (premium version) as well as the ability for to create plans, assign tasks, chat about tasks, and see charts of your team's progress (standard version). Planner integrates easily with other M365 applications such as Microsoft Teams and Microsoft SharePoint.

Released late in 2024, Microsoft has consolidated Microsoft Project for the Web and Microsoft ToDo features and capabilities into the new Microsoft Planner (additional details Here).  

Michigan Medicine currently offers two versions of Microsoft Planner; a standard version that is available to all Michigan Medicine team members and accessible through our M365 web and Microsoft Teams interface, and a premium versions that is available through a Project for the Web P3 license.

Planner Basic Features

  1. Task Management: Create, assign, and manage tasks with ease. You can add details like due dates, attachments, and checklists to each task.
  2. Collaboration: Work together with your team in real-time. You can comment on tasks, share files, and get notifications on updates.
  3. Integration with Microsoft Teams: Use Planner within Microsoft Teams to streamline your workflow. You can create and manage plans directly from Teams.
  4. Views and Reporting: Visualize your tasks in different views such as Board, Charts, and Schedule. You can also generate reports to track progress and performance.

Planner Premium Features

With a Microsoft P3 license, you get access to advanced features in Microsoft Planner, which is now integrated with Project Plan 3. Here are some of the key features:

Support - Minimum support model

Microsoft Planner operates under the Minimal Support Model.  The Minimal Support Model consists of:

  • Ensuring users can access the application.
  • Ensuring there is self-help learning available.
