Cornerstone-Why did I get assigned training that does not apply to my role?

Question

Why did I get assigned training that does not apply to my role (for example, patient care mandatories)? How can I get incorrectly assigned training removed?

Answer

At Michigan Medicine, there are mandated training assignments that are required in order to comply with federal and state health regulations. To find out more about mandatories please see the Cornerstone Institutional Mandatory Education Requirements, (aka Mandatories) knowledge article.

There are also training assignments that are required for specific departments and other user profile attributes like job title, work location, etc.

How is Training Assigned?

Your Cornerstone account profile which consists of:

  • Your job related information from the HR system. (Example: MM and UM Hire dates, if incorrect please work with your HR person or manager to verify it's correct in the HR system)
  • Specific roles associated with your Michigan Medicine Account (Level-2 Account) in the Identity and Access Management system (i.e. Active Provider, Medical Student, etc)
  • Your work location (selected on the User Profile Questionnaire - i.e. Medical School building, VA, etc)
  • Patient Care and Clinician roles are assigned based on your HR job position. Changes to the default values can be made by an employee's manager or their facilitator by updating the value on the User Record in Cornerstone.
  • Responses to the User Profile Questionnaire.

Learning Assignments can be added to transcripts in the following ways:

  • Automated: Learning Assignment based on job, division, and other known attributes
  • Manual User Record Updates: User Profile Questionnaire responses and MiChart criteria (may take up to 24 hours for new assignments to appear on transcript)
  • Direct Assignments: Managers and Facilitators can assign non-recurring training items directly to staff.

Reminder: MiChart Curricula must be assigned and all learning objects completed for MiChart access to be granted.

Training can be assigned based on a combination of profile attributes depending on the target audience for the training. Some of these attributes are populated with default values based on a majority of people with a specific job title - clinician, and patient care area, for example.  However, not all job titles have the same details, and in some cases, the default values may not apply to. In those cases, a departmental Cornerstone Facilitator can modify the settings in the User Record which may result in updates to learning assignments.

What if I am assigned the incorrect training?

In some cases, you may be assigned training that doesn’t match your role. In many cases, updating your User Profile Questionnaire can resolve incorrectly assigned training. Consult with your leader or Cornerstone Facilitator if you need assistance with your responses.

If you have been assigned Acceptable Use Training Elevated Privileges - IA-C10015  or Email Forwarding Attestation HITS-C40005 and no longer require this training, See: How to request and manage Michigan Medicine System Accounts > Delete System Accounts.
