Cornerstone - Hazard Communications and Our Waste Streams Training Assignments

Introduction

With the implementation of Cornerstone Learning, several Institutional Mandatory assignments have been updated to include learners who may not have been able to be identified in MLearning. You may be receiving new assignments in Cornerstone to support compliance with various regulatory requirements. The Hazard Communication and Waste Stream and Recycling Programs trainings are part of this clean up effort.

Associated Training with Updated Requirements:

  • Hazard Communication - Right to Know (SAFE-62035)
  • Our Waste Stream and Recycling Programs (SAFE-20084)

All Michigan Medicine employees are required to complete both of these trainings one time, typically on hire. These training are required on an annual basis for Michigan Medicine employees who work in a patient care area or their positions have been identified as those that generate at least one of the stated waste streams, prepare regulated medical waste for shipment and/or are exposed to hazardous chemicals in their work activities or in a foreseeable emergency.

Instructions

Annual Requirement

Hazard Communication - Right to Know (SAFE-62035) and Our Waste Stream and Recycling Programs (SAFE-20084) are being assigned annually if your job duties potentially involve working with or transporting at least one regulated waste stream (medical waste, pharmaceutical waste, chemical waste) or you are potentially exposed to hazardous materials in the workplace.

One Time Requirement

Hazard Communication - Right to Know (SAFE-62035) and Our Waste Stream and Recycling Programs (SAFE-20084) are being assigned as a one time requirement if you do not work in a patient care area and your job duties do not involve working with or transporting at least one regulated waste stream (medical waste, pharmaceutical waste, chemical waste) or you are potentially exposed to hazardous materials in the workplace.

Physician Assistants and House Officers

As of 6/21/24, PAs and House Officers will only be required to complete Our Waste Stream and Recycling Programs (SAFE-20084) one time - this is no longer an annual requirement for these positions. Hazard Communication - Right to Know (SAFE-62035) will remain an annual requirement.
