Introduction
Employees are assigned—and encouraged—to complete the User Profile Questionnaire in Cornerstone. The responses help supplement training assignments that cannot be determined using standard profile attributes (such as job code or department).
In most cases, the User Profile Questionnaire is used as an exception-based process to ensure training is targeted to the correct audience.
The Cornerstone User Record is populated from the HITS Identity Vault, which consolidates user information from multiple systems to create a complete Michigan Medicine user profile. Job-related data in the Identity Vault is sourced from MPathways.
If an employee’s job information is incorrect in Cornerstone, take the following steps:
- Review the employee’s HR record in MPathways to confirm the job data is accurate.
- If corrections are needed, work with your HR team to make to appropriate updates.
- If the HR record is correct and their is still a discrepancy, submit an incident to the HITS Accounts and Access team.
Once the job data is corrected at the source, the employee’s Cornerstone account will automatically update within 24 hours.

Manager Responsibilities
As a manager, you can help ensure an employee’s record is accurate by updating certain information on their behalf.
You can:
- Update an employee’s User Profile Questionnaire responses directly within their User Record
- Ensure other profile-related attributes are accurate for the employee's that report to you
This is especially useful when:
- An employee’s questionnaire response was entered incorrectly
- The employee is unable to update their profile themselves
- Training assignments need to be corrected based on accurate profile information
By default, these flags are based on an employee’s job, not their answers to the User Profile Questionnaire. For example, an employee's position may be identified as working in a patient care area; however, their job responsibilities do not require them to work in a patient care area. In this case, selecting No on their Questionnaire Profile will exclude the employee from patient care related training.

The Training Assigned by the User Profile Questionnaire document:
- Lists the exact questions as they appear in the questionnaire
- Identifies the specific training that is assigned based on each response
This document is a helpful reference when validating whether an employee’s profile responses and assigned training align correctly.
