Understanding MiChart in Cornerstone

Within Cornerstone, most MiChart courses and curricula are designated with MiChart in the name of the course and/or curricula. MiChart training activities typically indicate in the title whether it's a course, eLearning, demo, or other type of activity. Most MiChart course and curricula codes start with MC - for example: MiChart Provider General Medicine - Inpatient and Ambulatory Curriculum (MC-MD90011A). In general, MiChart curriculum codes contain 5 numbers while MiChart training activities only have 4 numbers.

As a Cornerstone Facilitator, you will update user profiles for learners in your department and enroll learners in your department in MiChart training via Cornerstone to ensure they receive the right training for their role. This training is directly tied to the functionality staff have access to in Epic, once MiChart access is granted. The appropriate MiChart Curriculum must be assigned to a learner and they must complete all required training before access is granted to MiChart.

Please note:

  • Learners can enroll in MiChart offerings/sessions themselves, a facilitator can also enroll them.
  • Managers can enroll their staff into a MiChart session.

Important Information around MiChart Assignment Timing

  • The assignment of MiChart curriculum is processed at 9am daily.
  • Always assign MiChart Curricula using the User Record and selecting the appropriate checkbox.
  • If you select the MiChart Curriculum checkbox on the User Record before 9am, the assignment will typically appear on the learners transcript after 10am on the same day. Note: Sometimes group processing is slow and it may take up to 24 hours to assign.
  • If you select the MiChart Curriculum checkbox on the User Record after 9am it will appear on the learner’s transcript on the following day after 10 AM.
  • Determine which MiChart curriculum should be assigned based on the MiChart access needed.
  • Sessions may still be scheduled for the learner before the curriculum is assigned, if you know what appropriate class is associated with the curriculum.
  • Learners cannot assign MiChart Curriculum to themselves, it must be assigned by a Facilitator or the learner’s Manager.
  • Learners can register themselves into sessions.
  • If an employee has already completed a MiChart Curriculum it will not be reassigned since you only need to complete MiChart training once. You should be able to find it on the employee’s completed transcript. If you’d like the employee to retake training regardless, you may use the direct assignment process to manually assign the curriculum. This direct assignment will require the learner to complete any previously completed training again.
