Introduction
Sometimes Outlook may begin to behave poorly, start generating errors, or you start receiving messages with errors after trying to forward items. If so, you can recreate your local Outlook profile to start fresh.
All your mailbox's contents (email, calendar, contacts) are stored in Microsoft Exchange, the email servers, so you won't lose them by following this process. They will simply download again.
Instructions
- Open the Outlook email client.
- Select the Outlook menu item.
- Select Settings... from the revealed menu.
- Select the Accounts item in the Outlook Preferences to reveal your current email accounts.
- If not already selected, click on your uniqname@med.umich.edu account.
- click the "-" symbol in the lower left of the Accounts window to remove your uniqname@med.umich.edu account from the computer.
- Click Delete. You should not lose any mail, drafts, or any rules you have created, as they are stored on the Michigan Medicine Exchange email server.
- In the same Accounts window, click on the "+" in the lower left of the window, and then click on New Account...
- Enter your full uniqname@med.umich.edu email address in the Email field of the resulting Set Up Your Email dialog box, and click "Continue".
- You will receive a message that your uniqname@med.umich.edu account has been added. Click Done.
You have now completed setting up your Exchange Online email account. It may take a few minutes for your email and calendar to repopulate. If you have any questions or problems, please contact the HITS Service Desk.
