Camtasia - How to open Camtasia on your computer and add your license key

Introduction

Once you have a Camtasia license key and you've either had the application pushed to your core-image device via the catalog item or you've downloaded it from the vendor website to your own device, it's time to open the application and add your license key to it.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are a Med School faculty member, your license key should have been sent to you in an email from Service Now after you requested it. If you are not a Med School faculty member, you will need to procure your license on your own, or you can use the Free 30-Day trial inside Camtasia.

Instructions

1. The easiest way to start Camtasia is to go to your start menu (the windows icon on the lower left corner of a PC), click on it and start to type "Camtasia." For a Mac, you'll want to go to your Software Center icon and search for "Camtasia" or download it manually from the vendor website.

2. Once you see "Camtasia (current year)" click on it to open the application. You will see a "Welcome to Camtasia" screen with a question about your usage of Camtasia. Click one of the radio buttons and click submit.

3. Once you click submit, you will need to either sign in, or if you do not have an account, you will need to create a TechSmith user account.  This account does not use Single Sign On (SSO) and is not tied to your med.umich.edu or umich.edu accounts. Keep track of your password that you use for your TechSmith account as you will need it every time you login.

4. Once the TechSmith account sign in window comes up, either sign in or click the "Sign up" link beneath the Continue button. Create your new account.

5. Once you have signed in or signed up, you will see a pop up asking if you would like to Open Camtasia (current year); click the Open button.

6. A box will display that has two buttons. If you have a license key, click on the bottom button that reads "Enter Software Key." If you are using the Free 30 Day Trial, click the corresponding button.

7. Enter your software license key and click the "Unlock Camtasia" button.

8. The application will open on your device. This might take a while as Camtasia has a library of templates and files that you can use in your recordings. Please give this step several minutes.

9. Once the application is open, you are all set to use Camtasia!

Don't forgot to look through the vendor's help videos and troubleshooting documentation for any questions you might have in using Camtasia. Happy recording!
