Introduction
The Intune-managed CoreImage uses the Windows default location--Quick Access on Windows 10 or Home on Windows 11--when you open File Explorer. This may lead some to believe that they do not have mapped network drives (e.g., H-drive). This can be remedied by clicking on This PC in File Explorer's sidebar.
Additionally, network drives will initially appear with a red-X indicator giving users the impression that they are unreachable. This may not be the case. If the device is being used off of the Michigan Medicine privileged network (e.g., remotely working at home), users must connect to the VPN before attempting to open one of the network drives. Even if you are not remote, the network drives will still initially have a red-X on them until you double-click to open them. This will likely be the case whenever you sign into Windows; even if the drives were connected prior to signing off, they will appear disconnected when you sign back in.
Instructions
- Open File Explorer on the taskbar.
Windows 10 Windows 11 - Notice that you may be looking at "Quick access" or "Home" and therefore do not see your network drives.
Windows 10 Windows 11 - Click on This PC to see your network drives. Note that the drives have a red-X indicating that they are disconnected.
Windows 10 Windows 11 - If you are remote, start a VPN connection before proceeding.
- Double-click on one of the network drives (e.g., the H-drive).
- Once you return to the This PC view, the network drive will no longer have a red-X on it.
