Introduction
Michigan Medicine is moving from two passwords to one password for daily work. On or after April 3, 2024, Michigan Medicine users can synchronize their UMICH (Level-1) and Michigan Medicine (Level-2) passwords to make their UMICH password the only password needed for login across U-M and Michigan Medicine resources.
Moving to one, 15-character UMICH passphrase comes with many benefits:
- No more annual resets
- No required letter or number complexity
- Fewer Duo prompts when using the ‘Remember Me’ feature, available now
- Reduced M365 login prompts on your phone using the Microsoft Authenticator app
- Enhanced data security
- And of course, only needing one password for work
Everyone at the Michigan Medicine AMC and the medical school will move to using their UMICH password common password in 2024. Michigan Medicine employees can choose to initiate their password sync via the User Profile tool, or sync when their Michigan Medicine (Level-2) password expires and requires reset. For more information about password syncing, visit michmed.org/sync.
How It Works
From a Michigan Medicine CoreImage PC, CoreMac, or Kiosk workstation, initiate your one-time password sync while connected to the Michigan Medicine network or VPN. VPN is not required if you are a sponsored affiliate or requesting your password sync from a mobile device. Click the sync passwords now button in the Michigan Medicine User Profile Page (UPP). After receiving sync confirmation, update your device password on CoreImage, CoreMac, and Kiosk computers by following the instructions in your confirmation email or below.
Following your successful sync, use your uniqname and UMICH common password to login to U-M and Michigan Medicine IT systems. The look of our login pages and application login pages will remain the same. As more individuals transition to a UMICH common password, the Level-1 and Level-2 terminology will be retired across internal U-M websites and documentation.
