Hospital Facilites Applications - BMS Address Request Process

Introduction

Devices connecting to the Hospital Facilities BMS network must have IP and/or BACnet addresses assigned by Hospital Facilities Applications. Addresses will be assigned to approved devices only.

Hospital Facilities master specifications and guidelines require the BMS addresses to be included in submittal drawings. At that time devices may not have been purchased yet, so the BMS address request can be done in two parts: address request and device activation. However, if the information required for device activation is known, one request may be submitted.

Depending on the project there may be one or more requests submitted for address and one or more requests submitted for device activation.

Instructions

Address Request
1. Download the BMS Address Request Form and complete the required information in the blue fields of the form. Technical knowledge of the devices and how they connected to the Hospital network is necessary to complete the form.

2. Email the completed form to bmsIntegrationRequest@umich.edu. Hospital project number (HFPRJ1234567) and name should be the subject and CC anyone who may need access to the addresses.

3. An automated confirmation will be sent via email with a RITM number. Reply to that email when following up on the request. Do not send a new email bmsIntegrationRequest. Any clarifications needed to complete the request will be send via email in a similar format.

4. All devices communicating in the Hospital's network must be reviewed by UDEW (Unified Device Evaluation Workgroup) and approved by TSC (Technical Standards Committee). If the device has not been approved, cutsheets of the equipment will be requested via email. Provide the information requested by replying to the email. Do not send a new email bmsIntegrationRequest. UDEW review and TSC approval may take several weeks, plan accordingly.

5. UMH Facilities Applications will assign all addresses and email a link to the completed BMS Address form. This completes the RITM process.

Do not reply to an email from a complete RITM because it will not reach the entire team. Send a new email to bmsIntegrationRequest which will generate a new RITM number.

Do not email copies of the BMS address request file after it has been emailed to bmsIntegrationRequest. All changes must be done via shared link.

Device Activation

6. The controls contractor shall update the BMS address request file with the ethernet MAC address of the device(s).

7. Email bmsIntegrationRequest with the request but not attach the file. Project number and name should be the subject and carbon copy anyone who may need access to the addresses.

8. An automated confirmation will be sent via email with a RITM number. Reply to that email when following up on the activation request. Do not send a new email bmsIntegrationRequest.
